Bush Adventure Therapy (BAT)

Therapy mostly out of doors with youth, adults, groups and families

Different to our disability support work at GAS, Bush Adventure Therapy (or BAT as it’s referred to) is essentially therapy outside in green and blue spaces e.g. parks, creeks, rivers, beaches and other natural areas. Each session is tailored to meet the individual needs of the participant as no two people are the same.

Located in Newtown next to The Hill mountain bike park and the Barwon River, a BAT session can involve a walk, ride or a paddle. Therapy dog Sunny is also always keen for a walk. Sessions can be 1-hour or extended to suit when travelling further afield. We have a cosy indoor space available too.

Medicare rebates available for work with Ellie (Mental Health Social Worker).

Our service is unique because our BAT Staff provide a 2 in 1 service, professionally trained in both outdoor skills and in providing targeted therapeutic support.

Who would you like to work with?

Ellie

As a mental health, nature-based social worker, with a background in the education sector, Ellie blends traditional therapeutic practices such as CBT, psychoeducation, and skills training with the restorative elements of the great outdoors.

Ellie offers a range of activities through her counselling sessions including, guided nature walks, camp cooking, camp skills, bike riding, nature craft, and swimming amongst other activities. Whether you’re navigating personal challenges, struggling to engage in education, needing additional support with your mental health or seeking a deeper connection with your environment, Ellie can work with you to meet your therapeutic goals. As an accredited mental health social worker, Ellie’s sessions are available under the Medicare Mental Health Care Plan.

Ellie is available for counselling with no wait-list on a Tuesday or Friday.

1-hour sessions with Ellie cost $170/hour and can be subsidised by Medicare. You can expect to receive a rebate of $85.20. Meet Ellie at Balyang Sanctuary or at GAS.

Extended time & tailored activities are available at an additional cost.
